POROUS
Cecilia Reeve’s first independent short film, made during her MA at the Royal College of Art (2023).
In a dreamlike narrative, a woman takes a bath and reflects upon her past experiences; submerged in the water she enters a space out of time. It is an existentialist film questioning the boundaries in between the body and the outside world, between water and skin.
Using traditional frame-by-frame animation, Cecilia combines paint on glass, gouache, and digital animation to create a tactile and intimate film.
WINNER: ArtsThread Global graduation prize in collaboration with Gucci 2023

“ Like swimming through the darkest parts of the unconscious mind.”
“A beautifully hypnotic sensorial experience”
The production and style of Porous held an integral part of its meaning, by combining a combination of animaiton techniques: paint on glass, digital animation, stop motion and Gouache and water colour backgrounds I created a rich, textural feel, a film which felt more like an animated painting than a typical animation.
Porous, Exhibited at the Royal College of Art Degree show 2023 at the Truman Brewery, projection onto mdf with found sink. Special thanks to Huw Roberts.
